About

This is a place for me to grow. Primarily, this is a collection of my experiences in my directed studies course in electronic composition at the University of Prince Edward Island. My posts can be assignments, experiments, or just little bits of ideas.

Rather than making polished complete projects, I want to be comfortable sharing my process as I flounder through new experiences, so I don’t know how this will turn out, and that’s super exciting! That being said, if you have experience with electroacoustic composition, my process might seem a little scatterbrained; this is because I am the first to do anything like this (that I know of) at my university. I have two professors, one of them, Chris Vessey, is teaching me the electronic side of things. He set up a lab for me with his own variety of equipment, and he’s self-taught in this area of knowledge. My other professor, Dr. Richard Covey, will help me use my new electronic knowledge to compose something awesome, since he’s the Theory and Composition professor here.

As of the the day on which I am writing this ‘About’ page, I have just finished my 4th year at UPEI. After next year, I will graduate with a Bachelor of Music (Clarinet), and the year after that I will graduate with a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Computer Science, both from UPEI. With how our administration is currently set up, I am unable to get a Double Major in these two fields, hence the pursuit of two Bachelor degrees. I am interested in Performance and Composition, and, as of this point in my life, Computer Science is mainly just a thing in which I seem to do well, and CS tends to be better than Music when it comes to paying bills. So, that’s the snapshot of where I’m at in my academic life.

This blog will not be super organized, but it will be an experience! 🎵🎶🎹🎧
